JEREMY MOON
Bespoke website for an artist's estate
THE BRIEF
Jeremy Moon (1934–1973) developed a distinctive abstract language of bright colour and geometric form, becoming one of the first painters in Britain to explore the shaped canvas.
The brief was to design and develop a bespoke artist estate website, creating a new digital identity around his work and life. Alongside the artwork archive, the website would bring together exhibitions, bibliography, public collections and archival material, including posters and invitations. Designed to accommodate future updates, it would serve as both a resource for exploring his practice and a platform to support new exhibitions.
THE DESIGN CONCEPT
The visual identity takes its cues from Moon’s work. A distinctive geometric Swiss sans serif typeface shapes the logotype and typography, while square forms and precise grids echo the structure of his compositions.
A monochrome palette leaves the colour to the artworks. The composition is organised around a central axis, with text and images arranged in relation to the screen’s midpoint. This gives the layouts a geometric clarity that echoes the structure of the paintings.
KEY FEATURES
The homepage opens with a full-bleed slideshow of views from major past exhibitions, giving Moon’s work an impressive sense of scale and presence.
Below, distinctive grid layouts introduce selected pieces across the different areas of his practice, alongside previews of key sections such as About and Exhibitions.
ADDITIONAL TOOLS
A comprehensive exhibition archive leads to individual pages bringing together exhibition views and selected artworks. Managed through a structured content management system, these pages allow the estate to document new presentations of Moon’s work as his exhibition history continues to develop.
